Only days before the match, many Bristol Rovers fans joked that they'd simply beat Scunthorpe 7-0 and get automatic promotion on goal difference, pipping Northampton Town. To anyone that watches football, they know that 7-0 victories are very rare, and not one team the entire season in League Two managed to beat an opponent by more than 7 goals.

Even the Bristol Rovers manager himself, Joey Barton, wasn't certain about what would happen talking about the possibilities of play-offs in the last interview he gave.

One thing on their side was their opponent being Scunthorpe. Bottom of the table, with the worst defence in the league, and having multiple dressing room issues leading to them using a lot of their youth. There could not have been a better team for them to face off against.

After the 7th goal, the pitch was invaded by the fans leading to a 13-minute pause as they needed to get everyone off the pitch. After the final whistle blew the crowd roared and a party that went on for hours led to Gloucester Road, even the players went with the Rovers striker Aaron Collins ending up on top of a traffic light

Though, despite this miracle story there is always a loser in these situations, and Northampton Town fans can feel the pain of missing out on automatic promotion. Some are claiming that the match was fixed, as this was such a statistically low chance of happening, nearly impossible.

Others simply felt that Scunthorpe had broken EFL rules by not fielding their best team, and Northampton Town are planning to lodge a formal complaint against them.

Many of the Northampton Town fans claim that Scunthorpe fielded a weak team on purpose, when in fact this was the same team that played the previous few weeks with a few changes. Behind the scenes at Scunthorpe had become toxic when they knew they were relegated. The management wanted to play their youth as the first team have appearance fees in their contracts, and this in turn angered many of the first team not being played so they could avoid paying them for it. The outcome of this could seriously impact Scunthorpe as they are already about to have financial difficulties being relegated. Though, nothing will stop the party that Rovers fans are currently enjoying as moments like this rarely happen in football, and when it does you have to cherish it.
